STELLINA IN ACTION

Many of us live in cities where artificial lights dim out the stars and, without realising it we have lost the connection with the sky that our ancestors had. So, it is time to make the night sky great again! First, you just need your naked eyes and to find a small place away from streetlamps, then, there is way much more to explore than just the stars what about reaching other galaxies?

You may have guessed you need a telescope to achieve this, and you are thinking to yourself it is complicated, it requires weeks or months of practice to get something decent.

So, let the space odyssey begin the destination?

Four hundred years ago the invention of the telescope opened a window on the deep space for all mankind, since then, technological progress has allowed astronomers to discover other worlds. Nowadays, the rest of us can easily access the distant reaches of the universe from a backyard with a small telescope.

Voila! Barely two minutes the Vaonis Stellina telescope is setup ready to go. Now, you just have to enjoy the sunset and wait for the dark… this is where technology meets the magic. We are living on a planet that travels through space at 30 kilometres per second and is rotating on itself. For this reason, trying to catch something that is light-years away and is invisible to the naked eye can be a challenge.

With any other telescope you must deal with polar alignment, pointing, tracking, focusing and eyepieces. The Stellina is the first telescope of its kind that manages all those tasks for you and can be controlled with your smartphone or tablet. With zero skill, you can get in touch with distant galaxies in minutes.

But there is more! It is also the first of its generation to integrate a high sensitivity sensor which sends to your device an image in vibrant colours of what you are pointing at.

Stellina operates according to a technique used by experienced Astro Photographers consisting in taking several long exposures and then stacking them to enhance the details, the sharpness, and the clarity of the image. Proceeding this way usually requires a steep learning curve to master astrophotography and image processing software techniques. Yet Stellina does it automatically and live while you are viewing.

As Stellina keeps collecting the light to get the best picture, you just have to get comfortable under the stars, enjoying the celestial show, looking out for shooting stars, and then imagine what could be the next destination of your space odyssey.

The Stellina is computer controlled autonomously using a smartphone app. There is a vast catalogue of stars, open clusters, nebulae and galaxies, which come with auto-magnification and focus data, too, so you don't have anything complex to think about. Tell the telescope to point at the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules (M13) or the Ring Nebula (M57) and it will slew to it and lock onto it within a few minutes. Yes, the future of astronomy has arrived.
